Nissan LEAF Electric Car - 25 August, 10

Nissan LEAF Electric Car

Nissan has just unveiled a new zero emissions vehicle that is slated to go on sale in Japan, Europe and the United States next year. Called the LEAF, this C-segment (sub-compact) car is powered by an electric motor and lithium-ion battery packs. Nissan says it will be able to drive 100 miles on a single charge. The batteries will be able to be charged up to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes with a special quick charger, or in roughly eight hours through a standard 200V outlet. Nissan says that through extensive research the 100 mile range will be suitable for 70 percent of car buyers.

Output from the lithium-ion battery packs is rated at 80kW/280Nm, (107-hp and 207 ft-lbs of torque), which should make this sub-compact a sporty little car.

Pricing has yet to be released but Nissan aims to give the LEAF an MSRP competitive with well-equipped C-segment cars. That should put it near the $20,000 mark. The car will also qualify for government rebates and tax incentives desigend to help promote the sale of fuel-efficient cars.

“Our car had to be the world’s first, medium-sized, practical EV that motorists could afford and would want to use every day. And that’s what we’ve created. The styling will identify not only Nissan LEAF but also the owner as a participant in the new era of zero-emission mobility,” said the LEAF product boss Masato Inoue.

The first LEAFs will be built at Nissan’s plant in Oppama, Japan with plans to also start production soon at the company’s Smyrna, Tennessee plant. The LEAF is the first of three electric vehicles that Nissan plans to launch in the next few years.

”The Nissan LEAF is a tremendous accomplishment – one in with all Nissan employees can take great pride,” said Nissan President Carlos Ghosn. “We have been working tirelessly to make this day a reality – the unveiling of a real-world car that has zero – not simply reduced – emissions. It’s the first step in what is sure to be an exciting journey – for people all over the world, for Nissan and for the industry.”

MULGRAVE, Australia – January 5, 2009: BMW Group Australia will bring the BMW M1 Homage show car to Melbourne in February 2009, to form the centrepiece of its stand at the Melbourne International Motor Show.

The BMW M1 Homage was created in 2008 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the BMW M1 road and race car programme, the car developed by the highly successful BMW M GmbH division.

The BMW M1 Homage will sit alongside the all-new BMW 7 Series Sedan which makes its Australian public debut at Melbourne, and the just-released BMW X6 xDrive50i, both of which are powered by the first ever BMW Twin Turbo V8 engines.

The link is apt, given the BMW M1 Group 5 race version was powered by an 850 bhp twin-turbo six-cylinder engine.

“For BMW, heritage is always also a living heritage. Drawing inspiration from your own past and thereby reinventing yourself – that is exactly what the BMW M1 Homage demonstrates in impressive style,” Dr Klaus Draeger, BMW Group Board Member, Development explained at the unveiling of the BMW M1 Homage at the world famous Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy.

The BMW M1 Homage is a design study in the tradition of a BMW Turbo that represents a contemporary take on the BMW M1 and the mid-engine concept.

The Liquid Orange paintwork exclusively developed for the BMW M1 Homage cites the classic BMW M1 colour, yet surprises with its powerfully iridescent play of colour and brilliant depth.

It gives life to the extrovert silhouette, highlighting the bold convex and concave surfaces.

The BMW M1 Homage lifts many of the unique styling cues for the original M1 such as the air vents in the bonnet, louvers on the rear screen and the black cut line that divides the roofline from the rear section of the body.

Another feature carried over is the twin outboard BMW Roundels, positioned at the extremity of each wing, as in all previous mid-engined BMW models.

Back in 1979, the BMW M1 was Germany’s fastest series production sports car. While many were dressed in aggressive war paint for racing in the Proccar series, none is better known than the BMW Art Car, immortalised by Andy Warhol.

“We are delighted to be able to announce the BMW M1 Homage show car will be arriving in Australia for the Melbourne International Motor Show,” said BMW Group Australia Managing Director Guenther Seemann.

“The BMW M1 Homage is a sensational looking car that highlights both the strong dynamic Motorsport heritage of BMW, but also the talent and skill of our current designers, who created a 21st century look at how a new generation BMW M1 could look.

“There is no doubt the BMW M1 Homage will be a draw card for the visitors to the Melbourne show, joining with our new Twin Turbo V8-powered BMW 7 Series and X6 Sports Activity CoupĂ©,” he said.

2012 Hyundai Veloster

2012 Hyundai Veloster car

Front wheel drive 2012 Hyundai Veloster are out and this sports coupe looks as good. Despite the test vehicle being camouflaged in black, Hyundai’s Veloster lives up to the expectations with its 2+2 seating after the Concept version released at the 2007 Seoul Auto Show. Besides an attractive exterior body style, the side windows are much improved- they stretch beyond the B-pillar. The tail lamps are positioned on the rear plane. The sides are taller with a long roof and a steeply raked windshield. The front and rear fenders have been made less fat and toned down.  The dramatic stance is heavily brought down and it leaves car lovers slightly disappointed, especially people who were hoping for the next Honda CRX. The Veloster is inspired by the Hyundai Accent and is slightly longer than the Mini Cooper, while still retaining 70 percent of the Concept’s styling. It looks really small and comes with a host of power improvements in the form of the pretty decent 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, gasoline direct injection (GDI technology). The power figures are a neat 138 hp and 136 lb-ft of torque. There is also a choice of a dual-clutch automatic transmission or one can have manual transmission as well with an entry level power plant of over 40 mpg. Expected to hit the roads soon sometime later this year or early 2011, the Veloster is pegged at a neat price of US $18,000.

1988 Audi quattro

1988 Audi quattro

The Audi Quattro was a famous and historically significant Audi road and Rally car. It was special in that it was the first AWD Grand Tourer since 1966's Jensen FF. Officially, the model name is simply "Quattro", always with a capital "Q" (although the graphics on the car, confusingly, refer to the AWD system and use a lowercase "q"). The word "quattro" with the lowercase "q" is used to refer to either the Audi AWD system, or any AWD version of an Audi automobile. To avoid confusion, it is also commonly referred to as the Ur-Quattro (the "Ur-" prefix is a German augmentative used, in this case, to mean "original" and is also applied to the first generation of Audi's S4 and S6 sport sedans, as in "UrS4" and "UrS6"). European Distribution Audi released the original Quattro in 1980, making it both the first car to feature Audi's quattro All Wheel Drive system (hence its name) and the first to mate quattro with a turbocharged engine. The powerplant was a 2.1 L, single overhead cam, 10 valve straight-5 originally making 160 hp (149 kW) and eventually receiving upgrades to 200 hp and then to a twin-cam setup producing 220 hp (164 kW). It is considered one of the most significant rally cars of all time, and was one of the first to take advantage of the then-recently changed rules which allowed the use of all-wheel-drive in competition racing. Many critics doubted the viability of all-wheel-drive racers, thinking them to be too heavy and complex, yet the Quattro was an instant success, winning its first rally on its first outing. It won competition after competition for the next two years. Total road car production is around 11,000 vehicles over the period 1980-1991. The body style received very little modification during its production run, the only significant changes were made for the 1985 model year, which included a new sloping front grill, headlights, trim and badging changes. All Quattros were hand built in Germany by a dedicated crew. North American Distribution Sales of the Quattro in North America began with the 1983 model year and continued through 1986. Total sales in the USA was 664 units. The Audi Sport Quattro The Audi Sport Quattro was a Quattro program car developed for Group B rallying homologation, and sold as a production car in limited numbers it featured a different body shell and a significantly shorter wheelbase.

2009 Aston Martin Vantage GT4

2009 Aston Martin Vantage GT4,car

Aston Martin Racing has released the 2009 specification Vantage GT4 based on Aston Martin's new 4.7 litre V8 Vantage. The new Vantage GT4 builds on the success of its predecessor, the 4.3 litre Vantage N24. The Vantage GT4 has been under development for six months and was unveiled in Dubai this week by Aston Martin chairman, David Richards, and tested extensively at the Dubai Autodrome. The car is an evolution of the N24 with the larger capacity engine being more responsive with increased torque throughout the rev range. The suspension has also been retuned to enhance the handling, including modified front uprights to give increased camber. The 2009 Vantage GT4 also has larger front brake discs with revised cooling. In the last two years, the N24 has proved to be one of the most successful cars in its class; winning the Nurburgring 24 Hours this year, as well as several FIA GT4 races,' said David Richards. 'We have built on this success to develop the Vantage GT4, a competitive racing car for professional and semi-professional drivers, but also a forgiving car which will appeal to enthusiasts who wish to use it for track days and club racing.' The Vantage GT4 is built to FIA GT4 regulations and is eligible to compete in the following series: FIA GT4 European Cup; British GT4 Championship; Britcar Endurance Series; German GT4 Championship; Dutch Supercar Challenge; Dutch GT4 Championship; VLN Endurance Championship at the Nurburgring; Australian Endurance Championship; the American SCCA Championship; and the Aston Martin Owners Club Race Series. The Vantage GT4 comes with either a manual transmission or sportshift transmission. It is priced from £96,645 and is available to order now with delivery in January 2009. Aston Martin Racing is now the only manufacturer to produce cars in each of the GT classes: GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4.

2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage N400

 Aston Martin V8 Vantage N400,car

The 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage N400 is a gorgeous car. It is seen by car experts as an even more charged version of the previous V8 Vantage that was released by Aston Martin. The car has even more power and is available as both a coupe and a roadster. The Aston Martins are very popular and are loved for both their engines as well as their sleek looks. The Vantage N400 is a special edition vehicle that is as gorgeous and as it is powerful. History of Aston Martin Aston Martin is a British vehicle manufacturer that is cantered in Gaydon, Warwickshire, England. It was started by Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin in 1913. The two men had partnered to sell cars made by Singer in 1912. The two men decided to make their own cars and named their model the Aston Martin after Martin's love of the hill climb races at Aston Hill (which is near Aston Clinton). The first Aston Martin ever produced was a four cylinder Coventry-simplex engine that was on the chassis of an Isotta Fraschini from 1908. The car was made before they managed to acquire manufacturing premises in Kensington at Henniker Place (this happened in 1915). Unfortunately mass production of their cars could not start as soon as the partner's had hoped because of the outbreak of the first World War, which is when Martin joined the Royal Army Service Corps and they sold all of their machinery to the Sopwith Aviation Company. The company was re-founded and revitalized after the war ended when the company received financing from Count Louis Zborowski. Bramford left the company in 1920 but not until they had designed a new car. Over the course of the car's history, Aston Martins have been made to compete in the French Grand Prix (1922); they have set world endurance and speed records at Brooklands. The company has failed two times, once in 1924 and in 1925 with a factory closing taking place in 1926. The company was finally bought by some very rich investors, Lady Charnwood among them, and it was renamed Aston Martin Motors. The company headquarters were moved to Feltham and in 1929 the Aston Martin International racer car was a huge success. In 2007, the company was purchased by David Richards, who is the Prodrive chairman. It is still co-owned by Ford (a development that happened in 1994). The company has also recently opened dealers in Europe and China. Now the company has dealers in 28 countries.

2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT2

Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT2

N24 racing car. Originally conceived as a GT4 car, it gradually evolved into a potential GT2 contender, which was the only GT class Aston Martin did not cater for at the time. Early testing at Goodwood showed potential and the GT2 Vantage was officially announced in January of 2008. Customers now had their choice of GT1 (DBR9), GT2 (V8 Vantage), GT3 (DBRS) and GT4 (N24) Aston Martins. While developing the car, the engineers had considerable more room for modifications than with the N24 Vantage, which was virtually stock. What remained unchanged was the advanced bonded aluminum chassis. The double wishbone suspension was also lifted off the road car but the geometry was changed to accommodate for the wider tires. The standard aluminum body, with the exception of the roof, was replaced with lighter and more durable carbon fiber panels. The road car's 4.3 liter V8 engine was increased in size slightly to just under 4.5 liter. This was done to get an intake-restrictor size that best suited the characteristics of the engine. Interestingly Ferrari actually sliced displacement off their F430 V8 engine for the same reason. Although no official figures have been released, we expect the restricted V8 to produce around 480 bhp. The dry-sump competition engine was mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox that was mounted in unit with the differential. Two principles customers were found for the new Aston Martin racing car. In Europe the car would be raced by James Watt Automotive, while Drayson Racing would take one stateside for the American Le Mans Series. Awaiting the arrival of their new car, Drayson campaigned their DBRS9 in the ALMS' opening rounds. The first public appearance of the GT2 Vantage came at the Le Mans Series test at Paul Ricard. The car was clearly still under development but the test gave Aston Martin the opportunity to test the waters against real opposition. The same prototype car was entered in the season opening Catalunya 1000 km race but it was withdrawn after the morning warm-up with engine problems. Later that month the first production car was delivered to Drayson in time for the high profile Long Beach ALMS race. It was considerably off the pace but did manage to reach the finish. The team put on a valiant effort the remainder of the season but continued to struggle to match the competition for pace and reliability. Back in Europe, the prototype made an appearance in the FIA GT test at Spa but did not take part in the 24 Hours later in the month. James Watt Automotive finally took delivery of their V8 Vantage in September and campaigned it in the Le Mans Series season finale at Silverstone. It completed the race in 33rd overall and 8th in class. In October the prototype was raced in two FIA GT races. Facing little opposition, the car won the G2 class at both occasions. Although James Watt Automotive announced a two car entry for the Le Mans Series, Drayson was the only team to race the V8 Vantage in 2009. On the schedule are the Le Mans Series and the major long distance events. The season kicked off at Sebring where the GT2 machine was noticeably quicker but again suffered an engine failure. Back in Europe the team's second V8 Vantage performed better securing an 8th and 6th in class. The next race will the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

2006 Aston Martin DBS

Aston Martin has unveiled the new DBS which will be driven by James Bond, the legendary British secret agent, in the next 007 film, 'CASINO ROYALE', to be produced by Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for EON Productions. In true Bond style, specific details of the new DBS remain top secret, although Aston Martin Design Director, Marek Reichman, said: 'This car encapsulates a link between our elegant DB9 road car and the powerful DBR9 race car. It signals an evolutionary development of Aston Martin's world renowned style and elegance. 'While hinting at our future design direction, the DBS also has very clear links with our heritage – it is instantly recognisable as an Aston Martin.' Aston Martin Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez added: 'The DBS continues our proud and lengthy association with James Bond. 'The DBS is not of the understated elegance of a DB9, nor the youthful agility of the V8 Vantage. It is explosive power in a black tie and has its own unique character which will equal that of James Bond.' Starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, 'CASINO ROYALE' is scheduled for release in November, 2006. The DBS was intended as the successor to the Aston Martin DB6, although the two ran concurrently for three years. Powered by a straight-6 engine, it was produced from 1967 until 1972, eventually being phased out in favour of the DBS V8 and the Aston Martin Vantage. It was a larger coupĂ© than the DB6, with four full sized seats, but was powered by the same 4.0 L engine as the previous car. The engine normally produced 282 bhp (210 kW; 286 PS), but a no-cost vantage spec engine option substituted Italian made Weber carburettors for the DBS' original SU units, thereby upping output to an advertised 325 bhp (242 kW; 330 PS). The DBS was intended to have a more "modern" look than the previous series of Aston models (the DB4 through DB6), and it incorporated a fastback style rear end and squared off front grille, atypical of Astons, but very much then in vogue in automotive design circles of the late sixties. Trademark Aston design features, such as a bonnet scoop, knock off wire wheels, and side air vents with stainless steel brightwork were however retained.

Ascari FG-T

Ascari FG-T Front

Ascari released the FG-T in 1995 at the world's motorshows, where the styling and promise grabbed the headlines of the world's press. The car utilised a Chevrolet V8, mid-mounted, to produce 286 BHP. A few deposits were taken at the motorshows, but very few F-GTs were delivered as the project morphed into the more popular, powerful and accomplished Ecosse. External styling was identical to the Ecosse, however the headlights were covered (but these were obviously removeable), and the alloy wheel design was simpler. The FG-T was of use to the company, though - firstly, as a test base for the Ecosse, and secondly, as the company's race car, driven in the European GT championship by Ascari's owner, Klaas Zwaart. The racecar made use of the Chevrolet V8's inifinate tweakability, and was moderately successful.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1983

Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1983

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Nuova or Nuova Giulietta or new Giulietta (series 116), is an automobile manufactured by the Italian car maker Alfa Romeo. The car was introduced in 1977 and while it took its name from the original Alfa Romeo Giulietta of 1954 to 1965, it was a new design based on the Alfa Romeo Alfetta chassis (including its rear mounted transaxle). At the beginning two engines were available: 1.3 L (1357 cc, 95 PS) and 1.6 L (1570 cc, 109 PS). Two years later was released 1.8 L (1779 cc, 122 PS) and in 1980 Super Giulietta with 2 L engine (2.0 L, 130 PS). In 1981 was made many changes externally and internally, engines were same. 1982 was released new 1.6 L engine.
