Humberstone: July 4, 2010 report & results

With several double features on the line after last weeks rain-out, made for a full night of racing at Humberstone Speedway Sunday night. Mark Fawcett, Jon Vineski, Jason Fontaine claimed their first victories of the year at Humberstone Speedway. The program was sponsored by Superior Petro Fuels and was capped off by a huge Holiday Fireworks display. Mid Summer temps and hot racing action made for a fantastic program.

The headlining Cosco Haulage Sportsman had twin 25 lap features Jason Moore, Kevin Sharpe and Nick Cupolo were the early leader is the caution filled feature with Cupolo breaking while leading at the halfway mark giving the lead back to Sharpe. Cody McPherson took the lead on lap14. Mc Pherson would hold on for the final 11 laps for the win and was followed by BJ Willard, Ryan Susice, Brad Rouse ans Gregg Rauscher. In the 2nd feature, Jeff Armstrong setting the pace would be the leader. Brad Rouse would take the lead on lap 9 . Rouse continued to lead and hold off Ryan Susice, Jeff Leggett, Greg Panunte and BJ Willard.

The Brian's Tire Repair Street Stocks also ran a rained out twin bill with Mark Fawcett claiming his first feature ever with 1 yellow slowing the pace. Fawcett was pressured early by Kevin Aube and Kevin Knapp. Fawcett was followed by Kevin Knapp, Kevin Kocarik, Dave Small and Al Sleight. In the 2nd Brian's Tire Repair Feature of 20 lap, Jaren Israel led the first lap and gave way to Kevin Aube who got caught in lap traffic giving the lead and win to Jason Fontaine for his first of the season. Next in line was Al Sleight, Israel, Jeff Dayman, and Tyler Anderson.

The Ron's Automotive Mini Stocks ran Round 2 of their Joe Cosco Memorial Series of Twin 15. Aaron Wiley led the early going from the first 4 laps and would have problems giving the lead to Rob Goulding who would claim the win followed by Garnet Wilson, Rocco Conte, Carey Gore and Mike Taylor to round out the top 5.

The field was inverted for half #2 with John Babion on the pole but Terry McNeil taking the lead. With 2 to go Carey Gore rolled on the backstretch was slightly shaken but otherwise aok after being checked over. With 2 to go, Curtis held on for his 2nd win followed by Chris Laskey, Rob Goulding, Terry McNeil and Greg Wilson.

The Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 Trucks returned after a week off for their 15 lap feature Early leader Adam Williams gave the lead to Bob McNamara on lap 2 and would continue for his first of the season followed by Rick Book, Kevin Conley, Andy Imbeault and Bill Beales. McNamara was underweight and no one moved up in position. Book also was under weight.

The Frontier Auto Dismantler Pure Stocks 15 lap feature Jon Vineski led the first 5 laps and would give the lead to Issac Pelissero who lost the lead avoiding a loose bumper giving the lead back to Vineski on lap 8. who would open a huge lead. Vineski would claim his first ever win. He was followed by Terry Ronning, Mike Greene, Marcel Michaud and Sami Pierce.

RACING AFTER THOUGHTS: A full night of 8 features, thrilled the holiday crowd. After problems in the first by Sportsman feature Nick Cupolo made the trip back to Thorold and returned with a 2nd car and finished 8th. Get well wishes for Speedway Owner Pete Cosco who took a fall and had a leg surgery. An 8 lap Flag Pole Race was held and the winner was Glen Hils over Brad Alward. The School Bus race was rained out last week and run tonight and the winner was Jon Vineski. Fireworks concluded the huge Sunday night show. Up next will be Humberstone's long awaited Stars of NASCAR Event as Bobby Labonte and last years winner Dave Blaney will compete with the Young Automotive Professional 358 Modifieds. Michael Waltrip will be on hand with Announcer Clinton Geoffrey for his expert commentary. The Mods will run double features from last weeks rain out. The show will be a full 5 division program with the Mini Stocks, Pro 4 Trucks, Sportsman and the Street Stocks will be a Ransomville Speedway King Of The Hill Qualifier. For this Special Event, the gates will open at 3PM and an Autograph session will be held as well as a question and answer period for the media. Racing will begin at 6:30 promptly.
