Ford Recalling F-Series Trucks, Edge and Lincoln MKX Over Fire Hazard

Nearly 15,000 Ford trucks and crossovers are being recalled in the States because of problems with electrical systems that can short and create a fire. The recall concerns certain 2011MY Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 and Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles.

"During a six-day production period, the supplier of the body control module manufactured modules that may have the potential for an internal short," Ford said in a posting on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA] website, adding that if a short occurs, it can result in an "unattended vehicle fire".

The Detroit-based automakers said that dealers will replace the body control module if necessary free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before January 10, 2011.

Ford Offers Free 400HP ECU Upgrade on all 2011 F-Series Super Duty Pickups with V8 Diesel

Don't you just hate it when you buy a product and then a month later the company decides to release an upgraded version? Take owners who purchased a 2011 F-Series Super Duty diesel earlier this year, for example.

When the pickup was first launched onto the market, its 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbocharged diesel churned out 390HP and 735 lb-ft at 1,600rpm. Now Ford has presented a slightly more powerful version of the V8 producing 400 ponies and more significantly, 800 lb-ft of torque.

In what Ford describes as 'an industry first', the company has decided to upgrade the engines of all those past and any future (don't forget, there are vehicles sitting in dealer lots) 2011 F-Series Super Duty pickup customers free of charge.

"We want to take care of our loyal, F-Series Super Duty pickup owners who supported us when we debuted our all-new Ford-designed, Ford-engineered and Ford-built Power Stroke earlier this year and reward them by offering them the same best-in-class torque, horsepower and fuel economy our new customers are receiving right now," said Barb Samardzich, Ford Motor Company's vice president of powertrain engineering.

Ford said that eligible owners will receive a letter inviting them to their local dealership for the free 30-minute software upgrade to the truck's powertrain control module. The upgrade program will begin by August 31 and continue for the next 12 months.
