Evoy's adjustments work as he masters the Beast of the East

BROCKVILLE, ON - Dylan Evoy has been trying to figure out Brockville Ontario Speedway all season.  The local teenager had his share of success in the world of karting and in his first couple of seasons at the Beast of the East.  However, recently a feature win in the highly competitive Sportsman division has been hard to come by despite some great runs at other local tracks.  Evoy and his father decided it was time to change things up, making some minor adjustments to always well prepared number 83.

The duo hit the right combination on Saturday night as Evoy captured his first feature win of 2010.  It was far from easy however, as Steve Barber took off to an early lead in the 25 lap event that included just one caution flag.  Chris Herbison quickly moved up to challenge for the top spot with Evoy not far behind.  Dylan had to take his car three wide and make some nifty moves to grab the lead and once that was complete, was able to pull away in the closing laps.  Herbison was second in front of Barber, Randy Earl and Sheldon Hoogwerf.

Cinderella almost made an appearance in the 30 lap Modified feature.  Smith Falls institution Dave Heaslip led the first 27 laps of the event as he continues what very well might be his farewell season.  However, Stephane LaFrance had other ideas.   LaFrance in his home built chassis, tried a couple times to give the veteran the slip on the low side, before a bold and impressive sweep around the outside of the track in turn 1 with 3 to go to take his second in a row at Brockville and third of the season, this one coming despite starting 15th.  Heaslip was second in front of Kyle Dingwall, Andy Lloyd and Ryan Poole.  The race got a little interesting on the next to last restart when Bobby Herrington made his bid for the lead and tangled with Danny O'Brien, who had similiar intentions.   Herrington spun and both ended up at the back of the field for the final run to the checkered.

Pennsylvania teenager Shayne Ely pulled off a surprising win in Patriot Spint series action as he lead wire-to-wire to claim the second race in the Riverside Bar and Grill King of the St. Lawrence Series. Not only was it his first career win, it was his first career top-10 finish.  Former Brockville regular Shane Donath almost got by a couple of times before settling for second with a fast closing Alain Bergeron waving Canadian colours in third spot.  Joyceville's Rick Wilson ended up eighth.  Some tense moments in the heats for the sprint cars as April Wilson rolled three times in turn one, heavily damaging her car.  April banged her knee but  is otherwise ok.

Todd Raabe returned to his early season form in the Street Stocks.  Raabe took his first 15 lap win since early June after an early pass in turn one to take the top spot of Darrick Eaton.  Kevin Fetterly nudged by Eaton at the line for second with Brock Cullen and Steve Kearney rounding out the top five.  Jean Marc Larose captured his 7th Rookie feature of the year, clearing everyone in front of him by the end of the first lap.  Mike Gaucher was the best of the rest in second with John Gifford, Joe McNicholls and Dwight Feltham in tow.  Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action next Saturday night, July 24th with the annual appearance of the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series.  In addition to the ODML, Brockville's Sportsman, Rookie, Street Stock and Vintage classes will take to the track with the green flag dropping at 7pm.
