Thorold, Ontario (April 27) For the second time in three years Merrittville Speedway’s Spring Sizzler turned into a Spring Drizzler as heavy rain showers dampened what was quite an opening to the 2009 Season at the Thorold track.
It was the second time in the young season that the 2009 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series has been affected by inclement weather after the opener was washed out just last week at the Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville NY.
“We were able to come up with quite an exciting compromise,” reveals, (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, adding, “while we didn’t want to see our 58th Season open under these circumstances … each division will see their event rescheduled.”
Zavitz Financial Strategies & Employee Benefit Solutions Night Monday May 18th will see the 358 Modified Super DIRTCar Series Opener added to the event that also opens the 2009 Lucas Oil Shoot Out presented by dirttrackdigest.com.
The new date will see the 100 lap event shortened to 50 laps – with the night cap featuring the 50 lap Lucas Oil Shootout as well.
The first Holiday Weekend of the new year will kick off with the Seaway Mall presenting the BRP Can Am Late Models Saturday May 16th and added to that night is the rain delayed feature for the Modern Corporation Open Wheel Lites.
When SMS Machine presents the New York Modified Midgets – Saturday June 13th – the Hoosier Stock Division will see their delayed feature added to that night’s program as well.
“Race fans are in for some special nights,” boasted Bicknell, “when each event is made up … and then each night’s respective scheduled events on top … they will be must see events in the early part of the season”
Merrittville Speedway’s Rain Out Policy states that if due to inclement weather – rain checks will be null and void if seven events have been completed. After an initial shower, the track had just about been run back in before another downpour officially cancelled the balance of the night.
While rain checks will not be honored from April 25th – Merrittville Speedway fans are reminded of the special offer that comes with every ticket from Welland’s Boston Pizza. Race fans with a Grandstand Ticket from April 25th’s event can also use their ticket stub to save $3 off Monday May 18th’s Admission Price.
