Delaware Speedway to host NASCAR Sprint Cup stars Kyle Busch, David Reutimann and Regan Smith on July 7, 2010
Recent Delaware Speedway champions from the APC NASCAR Late Model division, such as Steve Robblee, Jesse Kennedy, Scott Lindsay and DJ Kennington will lead an elite field into this unprecedented showcase event.
“It will be a privilege to have them (Busch, Reutimann and Smith) come up, to introduce them to
Kennington, who has competed against Busch and Smith in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, is looking forward to having those drivers come north. “For me it’s gonna be awesome because they get to kick my butt every week down there (in the United States) and we hope this will even out the playing field a little.”
The excitement over the event has even caused a “rift” in the house of Ron Sheridan, one of Delaware Speedway’s most popular and competitive drivers over the last ten years. “My son Jake says he doesn’t know who to cheer for now because he’s a Kyle Busch fan,” laughed
An exhibition (non-points) event, the “Delaware Summer Showdown” will see Busch, Reutimann and Smith compete in a 35-lap feature race against an elite field of Delaware Speedway competitors. The NASCAR Stars will drive in the same Late Model-style car as the Delaware Speedway drivers.
Specifics about the event format and driver qualification (including the possibility of competitors from other tracks to participate) will be announced separately.
As for whether or not the NASCAR Sprint Cup stars will adjust to both the Late Model-style car and the race track itself – which is renowned in stock-car circles for being a little tricky to navigate – Delaware’s top drivers don’t seem to be concerned.
“I don’t think it’ll be a big deal for them,” said Robblee. “They grew up racing cars like that. I’m sure they’ve driven lots of late model cars.”
Asked if they’re ready to take on some of NASCAR’s best, Kennington was quick to respond: “Game on.”
Regarding the visiting drivers: Many know Kyle Busch as a brash, outrageously talented and outspoken competitor. Perhaps NASCAR’s fastest rising star, he is a driver whom many fans love to hate for his hot temper mixed with magic on the track. Busch is thee only NASCAR driver to win races in two of its national touring series on the same day, winning the Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series races held on
Currently driving for Joe Gibbs racing, Busch won five races at NASCAR’s highest level in 2009 including one of the Daytona “Duel” events in Florida as well as wins at Richmond, Las Vegas and both races at Bristol which, like Delaware Speedway, is a half-mile oval.
“They’re the same as we are,” Kennington said of Busch, Reutimann and Smith. “Kyle’s actually a really funny guy, really down to earth. It will be cool to have him here.”
David Reutimann is a
Regan Smith began his NASCAR career racing in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2002 and moved to the Busch (now known as Nationwide) Series full-time in 2006. Last year, Smith ran in 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. However, he has a lot to look forward to in 2010 as Furniture Row Racing has announced that it will run the full 36-race schedule with Regan Smith at the wheel. Smith’s crew chief, Ryan Coniam, is from
“What pleases us most about this event is the opportunity to showcase the competitors that have supported Delaware Speedway for so long, and to give their loyal fans a great show,” said track General Manager, Joe Czernai. “We are committed to building awareness of our NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and its competitors and creating added value for the many corporate partners that help keep the race teams coming to the track each week. We believe this is another step in the right direction.”
“This is a sign of how far the speedway has come,”
General admission tickets for the event will soon be available online at www.delawarespeedway.com and will also be available at Delaware Speedway’s display at the CPT Racing Experience trade show, this Saturday and Sunday (January 16 and 17) at the Western Fair Agriplex, as well as at the track’s display at the Canadian Motorsports Expo in Toronto, January 22 – 24, 2010.

Delaware Speedway Insider: WHELEN ENGINEERING NIGHT
Race Date: May 15, 2009 & May 16, 2009
Mother Nature Doesn't Dampen Delaware's Drive
While Mother Nature has prevented Delaware Speedway from dropping a checker flag on any weekly division feature races so far this season, it has not dampened spirits at Delaware Speedway! Fans, drivers and officials have never been so energized about programs at the speedway. This weekend, officials plan to hit the ground running again with an exciting line-up of racing that features Canada’s finest weekly racing program on Friday, and the Transmission Direct Enduro and Ultimate Sandblasting and Coating Chaos Cars on Saturday afternoon.
Fans have a lot to be excited about this Friday night. The historic speedway renovation project has continued aggressively throughout the rainouts. This week fans will get their chance to see the latest round of upgrades. The first of which is the first use of the racetrack since the historic repaving project began this past Saturday. The initial repave has seen large sections of the speedway replaced with new asphalt. The second is the highly anticipated activation of the new sound system at the track.
The line-up for the evening itself aims to finish races already begun in the rain, and to run races already scheduled to be run that night.
With the rainfall putting a stop to the racing program last week, the APC Late Model division sits frozen four laps into a great race. Thirty drivers descended on Delaware Speedway to run in the opener for the first stage of the J.B.M. Auto Leasing Triple Crown. This race will be completed first thing Friday night at 8:00 pm. The APC Late Models will see further action in the evening when their field runs their originally scheduled 35-lap feature race. The field will be set based the finish of the J.B.M. Auto Leasing Triple crown race with an eight car inversion plus the roll of one dice.
The POWERADE Open-Wheel Modifieds will also be hitting the track on Friday. Last week before the rain came, the division completed qualifying for a 25-lap feature race. This race will be run second on the evening. Later in the program they will run their originally scheduled 25-lap event lined up based on a two-dice inversion of the finish of the first race.
The Delaware Super Stocks have not yet had a race event this season. They will be running heats and a 25-lap feature race. Their rained out program for opening night will be filled later in the season.
The entire evening finishes with a Throne King’s of the Hill Spectator race. The event is for street legal, street driven vehicles to compete in one-on-one drag races around the half-mile speedway. The winner of the event will be receiving a $500 prize. Don’t forget to bring a helmet and proof of ownership and remember; only the first 40 cars will be accepted, so register early!
Gates open at 6:00 pm, racing gets underway at 8:00 pm. The wildly popular “toonie hotdog” deal will be in place from 6:00-7:00 pm. Be sure to arrive early and pick out your favourite seat and take advantage of this offer. On Saturday gates for the Transmission Direct Enduro and Ultimate Sandblasting and Coating Chaos Cars open at 1:00 pm, racing starts at 2:00 pm.

What about my rainout ticket from last week???
The speedway has elected to allow those rainout tickets to be used at full value - - this means that you can redeem that ticket at the front gate for a new one this week! Don't forget to take a moment to review the track's rainout policy. It's a great night to bring someone new to experience the NEW Delaware Speedway!
Still loving those new hotdogs...
Toonie hotdogs will be available through the main concession stand from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm! Arrive early, find your favourite spot on the hill and head over to the new concession stand and try our brand new hotdogs!
So what is new this week in the renovation?
New pavement, new sounds system, new ticket system!
This week is the debut of several more renovation improvements! As well as the obvious fresh pavement, fans will be experiencing two additonal exciting upgrades: the new sound system and new ticketing system! Click here to see new photos from the renovation! (Caution, large photos)

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Schedule Announced
NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 2009 Schedule Announced
· 13 Dates Cover 12 Tracks In Six Provinces
· Season Opens May 23 At Autodrome St. Eustache
· Two Tracks New To Series Highlight Calendar
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 16, 2009) – NASCAR announced today the schedule for the third season of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, which will take the series to some of the top racing facilities throughout Canada.
The schedule features 13 dates at 12 different tracks across six provinces. The slate includes tracks and events familiar to the series, but there are some new components.
Scott Steckly will commence his title defense when the season begins on Saturday, May 23 at Autodrome St. Eustache in Quebec. The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series made its first visit to the .400-mile oval last season, but the track has been a part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series since 2006. The schedule has a return trip to St. Eustache on July 11 just prior to the Western swing.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series adds a pair of first-time visits this year – to Delaware Speedway on Saturday, June 6 and Auto Clearing Motor Speedway on Wednesday, July 29.
With a storied 55-year history, Delaware Speedway was a long-time staple of the former CASCAR series. The half-mile oval, located near London, Ont., has a natural amphitheater-like setting, which allows fans a great view of all the action. Delaware joined the family of tracks for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, NASCAR's grassroots weekly racing series, this season, as well.
The addition of Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, Sask., changes the complexion of the series' Western swing. In the two previous seasons, the trip to Western Canada consisted of visits to SunValley Speedway in Vernon, B.C., and a trip to the demanding 1.973-mile Rexall Speedway in Edmonton, Alberta.
This year, the Western trip will include a Saturday, July 18 race at SunValley Speedway, also a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track. A date along with the IndyCar Series at the Rexall Edmonton Indy comes a week later on Saturday, July 25, while a mid-week show at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway on Wednesday, July 29 will close out the trek as the race teams migrate back East.
Opened in 2006, Auto Clearing Motor Speedway is a third-mile oval located just north of Saskatoon and operated by the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association. The 35-acre facility is the newest home for the track, known formerly as Bridge City Speedway, since stock-car racing began in Saskatchewan in 1954.
A subtle change to the new schedule is a move for the traditional Montreal date from early August to Sunday, Aug. 30, as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series again will join the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Grand-Am Rolex Series for the popular event at the legendary Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, a 2.71-mile temporary street course, on Montreal's Île Notre Dame.
Just as has been the case in the previous two seasons, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will close out the season and crown a new champion at Kawartha Speedway, a .375-mile oval near Peterborough, Ont., on Saturday, Sept. 26. Last year, Jason Hathaway picked up his first series win in the event while Steckly celebrated his first title.
Other 2009 highlights include:
* The 2009 schedule includes races on nine ovals: Auto Clearing Motor Speedway, Autodrome St. Eustache (2), Barrie Speedway, Delaware Speedway, Kawartha Speedway, Mosport Speedway, Riverside Speedway and SunValley Speedway; and four road courses: Circuit de Trois-Rivieres, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Mosport International Raceway and Rexall Speedway.
* On June 13-14, the series will run at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario at the facility's 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course. The race is part of an eventful weekend at the 750-acre facility. The series will also visit Mosport's half-mile oval on Saturday, Aug. 8.
* The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres in Quebec is on tap for Aug. 14-16. Last season, Andrew Ranger thrilled the fans of his home province with a last-lap move for the victory on the 1.53-mile temporary street course. Joining the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in Trois-Rivieres will be the Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge.
* The Barrie (Ont.) Speedway date is set for Saturday, Sept. 12. Each of the past two trips to Barrie on this weekend has resulted in overflow crowds. Steckly cemented his stake to the 2008 title with a win in this event at the third-mile tri-oval.
* The trip east to the Maritime Province of Nova Scotia for a Saturday, Sept. 19 event at Riverside International Speedway is a popular stop for the competitors. Tackling the high-banked turns of the third-mile scale version of the legendary Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway has produced some of the best racing the series has to offer. Don Thomson Jr. bested the field in 2008 for his fourth career series victory.
