Rockingham, N.C. (April 19, 2009) - It was a bumpy start for Steve Arpin and the Eddie Sharp Racing No. 20 Taylor Motorsports Toyota Camry team at the ‘Rock’ this weekend. Practice and qualifying did not sail smoothly and the crew made adjustments throughout the day, clear up until the green waved. All the hard work paid off and Arpin would go on to capture a top-10 finish.
Throughout the weekend, Arpin and the No.20 Taylor Motorsports Toyota Camry fought an extremely loose car, but by the end of the race the car was roaring a different tune. After 9 pit stops and a complete overhaul on the set-up package the team was able to get the car as close as they could to were it needed to be and more drivable .
Steve Arpin, Driver of the No. 20 Taylor Motorsports Toyota Camry was pleased with his first experience at Rockingham Speedway, ‘Team work was the key to our top 10 finish this weekend. We struggled with the car all day Saturday during practice and into qualifying. As a team, we decided that we needed to make wholesale changes and before the race we changed as much as we could with the cars in impound and made the remaining changes after making one lap around the track and continued making changes during the race. I think we made about ten pit stops or so, but that just shows you how good of a team we have. They just made it better and better each time and we worked with what we were given. I can’t believe that we pulled a top-10 out of it, but the guys showed what hard work and perseverance can do.’
Arpin was later asked how he felt about his first experience at Rockingham, ‘It was very interesting. I now know what everyone says about taking care of your tires and it gets slippery the longer you go. I learned a lot about car control and tire management and a lot about patience too. It’s all about patience here at Rockingham.’
Next Stop: Arpin and the Taylor Motorsports Toyota Camry team travel to Talladega, Alabama this weekend for the ARCA RE/MAX 250. The green flag drops at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009 and will air LIVE on SPEED.
